The unit was notified today of the death of Cadet
Kurt L. Williams, age 23. According to a family member, Kurt was killed in
a boating accident on Lake of the Ozarks, Saturday, July 31, 2004.
Cadet Williams had been a member of the 414th
Military Police Company since joining the military in Spring 2002.
Williams learned quickly and within a short time of being promoted
to Specialist made an early career decision to become an Army
Officer.
Kurt had graduated in
2004 with a Bachelor's of Science in Criminal Justice from Southwest
Baptist University and anxiously awaited the completion of one
final class needed to accomplish his commissioning goal. He was a
member of First Baptist Church of Houstonia. He worked for Home
Court Advantage, a juvenile care and group home facility in Bolivar,
where he was a support staff counselor, assisting residents with
anger management and teaching them daily living skills.
He had already shown
outstanding leadership abilities and had assumed an active role as
Platoon Leader in the 414th here at home, while a portion of the
unit was deployed to Afghanistan. His knowledge and willingness to
accomplish any mission will be greatly missed.
Those who have served
with Cadet Williams will remember him as an energetic, fun-loving, young man always ready and
willing to do whatever was required of him. His presence has been a
valuable asset to his leaders and his peers.
Cadet William's funeral
was at 2:00pm August 03, 2004 at the
First Baptist
Church in Sedalia, MO.
Survivors include his parents, of the
home; three sisters, Neena Williams, of Jefferson City, Shelley
Williams of Sedalia, and Loretta Williams of the home; his paternal
grandparents, Harold and Marilyn Williams of Hughesville; and his
maternal grandfather Francis Worsham, of Rogersville, Missouri. He
was preceeded in death by his maternal grandmother, Helen Worsham.
